On Saturday July 24 2010 Mid Island Karate Dojo held its
first promotions and advanced its first group of
students in Matsubayshi Shorin Ryu Karate-Do. The
promotion ceremony was held under the guidelines of
Shorin Ryu Karate Do International. Present for the
ceremony was Sensei Jerry Figgiani, President of
S.R.K.D.I. Sensei Rick Kaufman, Sensei Lisa Andersen,
Sensei Silivo D’Onofrio and Sensei Mike Borreca.
Congratulations to Jason Intardonato, Adam Santiago and
Philip Lunarola for achieving the rank of Roku Kyu. See

On Saturday, May 8, 2010, The Shorin Ryu Karatedo
International, held it's second Doshi Kai for 2010.
Approximately twenty members and nonmembers were in
attendance. Sensei Figgiani reviewed kata and bunkai
applications. Bo kata was covered as well. Sensei Nestor
Ramos was a guest instructor who covered defenses
against knife attacks. Both presentations complimented
each other which made for an interesting and beneficial
Doshi Kai.
Congratulation's to Pat and Sean Brady from Sensei Ramos
dojo, Excelsior Martial Arts. Both students were
promoted to Yon-kyu.
The first Shorin Ryu Karatedo
International was held on January 30, 2010. It was a closed
Doshi Kai for students of the East Coast Black Belt Academy
training in Shorin Ryu. The following students were
promoted to
Shodan: Silvio D’Onofrio, Lisa
Andersen, Lynda Borreca, Bill Bechel
Promoted
to Nidan was Jack Shanahan
In attendance was Sensei Nestor Ramos
from Excelsior Martial Arts and his student Pat Brady.
The three-hour Doshi Kai was a
fast-paced session that consisted of kata, bunkai, bo kata
and tegumi drills from Koryu Uchinadi.

to thank all those who were present for this special day.
Hi everyone,
The first class of shorin ryu karate-do will start promptly
at 9:30 am on Sunday March 28th. It will be held at the
Masonic Temple, 312 Main Street, Port Jefferson, NY. The
same side of the road and just north of Theater Three. The
class will be on the lower level. Wear gym clothes or a
white karate gi if you have one. My sensei Jerry Figgiani
will attend the opening of the dojo. I wish you all to meet
him. Hope to see you there.
